Iraj Parvizi's Arqana October graduate Jayarebe (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}–Alakhana {Fr}, by Dalakhani {Ire}), who annexed Royal Ascot's Hampton Court Stakes in his penultimate start, was rewarded for his consistency with a pillar-to-post triumph in Saturday's G2 Qatar Prix Dollar at ParisLongchamp.
The April-foaled bay, a last-out second to subsequent G1 Irish Champion Stakes victor Economics (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) in Deauville's Aug. 15 G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano, was let go as the 29-10 second choice and broke well to seize an immediate advantage here. Untroubled on the lead until bustled along when threatened at the top of the straight, he came under stern urging inside the final quarter-mile and was driven out to just hold the late rattle of Almaqam (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) by a head. The pair were four lengths clear of the remainder, headed by Birr Castle (Fr) (Cloth Of Stars {Ire}).
“Jayarebe is on an upward curve, he started in a Listed race at Newmarket in the spring and is going through each stage,” said trainer Brian Meehan. “I was slightly concerned about the [soft] ground, but Sean [Levey] said he was fine. He's versatile, he's very exciting and he's got a great owner. It's great for the team at home as well. Maybe there's a horse out there that will give him a proper lead. He had to do it all himself today, but credit to Ed Walker's horse as he gave him a race inside the last 100 yards. He stays in training and there's so much more to come. It was a long journey here, so we'll get him home and take it from there. I'd have no worries about stepping up to a mile-and-a-half for the [GI Breeders' Cup] Turf.”
Pedigree Notes
Jayarebe is the fourth of six foals and one of three scorers from as many runners produced by Listed Prix Joubert victrix and G3 Grand Prix des Provinces third Alakhana (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}), herself the leading performer out of Listed Henkel Trial third Dubai (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Dubai, in turn, is a half-sister to G2 Preis des Bankhaus Salem Oppenheim winner Denaro (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}), G3 Dr Busch-Memorial victor Davidoff (Ger) (Montjeu {Ire}) and multiple Group-placed Listed Mulheim Derby Trial winner Duellant (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}). The April-foaled bay, whose third dam is stakes-winning G2 German 1000 Guineas runner-up Dapprima (Ger) (Shareef Dancer), is kin to the unraced 2-year-old colt Persian Warrior (Fr) (Persian King {Ire}) and a yearling colt by Victor Ludorum (GB).
